Release: DEPTHMAP NEXT (2020)
A Pixelated Point of View is proud to release
its newest Machinima, and a new member to the Quake III Machinima family:
‘DEPTHMAP NEXT’. The film is a direct sequel to ‘DEPTHMAP’, which originally
released in October 2019 and was featured on the 2020 edition of the Milan
Machinima Festival.
‘DEPTHMAP NEXT’ is an experimental and
expressionistic take on the game Quake III Arena (1999) and aims to explore
both new and familiar paths within the game through the aid of grainy and
sinister looking depth of field maps. This second installment is a direct
sequel to ‘DEPTHMAP’ and particularly emphasizes the use of third-person chase
footage, experimental camera movement, longer runtime, a deeper look and feel
and a technological extension towards layering and masking by combining the
original footage and its corresponding depth of field map altogether.
‘DEPTHMAP’ (2019) and ‘DEPTHMAP NEXT’ (2020)
purposefully shed new perspectives on a timeless classic, push the bar towards
its cinematic representation and change existing associations originally taken
for granted.
